Sad? Why was he sad? This had been a fantastic experience. Maybe because it was over now? He supposed he could stick around for a bit longer, wait to see if he could get it up again, but he honestly didn’t think he could, not for another hour or so. Probably longer. He felt spent. Why was he sad? He needed to think, and another shower.

“Shower?” he asked, slowly getting up.

“Yeah, sure. I sure need another,” Dawn replied.

They got back into the shower and spent a few minutes washing up.

“Are you okay? You seem...I don’t know, upset? I didn’t do anything wrong, did I?”

“No, no, not at all,” he replied. “I am upset, but it’s nothing you did, I think. I guess my problem is that I’m feeling sad and I don’t know why. I mean, that was amazing. The sex we had was fucking phenomenal, and our conversations were great. I feel...” He realized that he felt disappointed, and then immediately felt guilty.

“What? You can tell me,” Dawn said.

“I feel...disappointed,” he admitted.

“Yes,” he agreed.

“Yes, definitely.”

“Okay. The way the human brain works is...there’s a fucking grand canyon of difference between being told something or hearing something...and knowing something. Like, truly knowing it. You can be told a thousand times that sticking your hand on a burning stovetop is going to hurt like hell.
